“Music is what feelings sound like.”

I can vouch for that quote a million times over. I have no idea where it’s from or who it’s by, but it is certainly very true. Music has gotten me through some of the toughest times in my life. It describes my feelings perfectly (either happy, sad, angry, frustrated, etc) when I cannot use words. There are very few artists whose music and lyrics I can truly relate to, given the circumstances. I do not consider myself to be a music snob or an elitist by any means. Though I do have some reservations about certain kinds of music, I won’t necessarily boycott it. Anyway, point is I think musical taste is subjective and varies according to a person’s taste.

My all-time favorite band is Radiohead. Their music just takes me to a different world. Lot of people say that their music is sad and depressing. Yes, it may seem like it and do not entirely disagree. But there is something about it that just makes me happy. I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the combination of awesome lyrics and beautiful rhythm. It takes me to my happy place.

Recently, I have discovered the talent that is Adele. It’s too bad I was so late in discovering her music, but better late than never right? Let’s start off with that amazing voice! Oh my goodness, it is so strong and powerful. When I first heard “Rolling In The Deep” I thought it was sung by a 30-something diva! To my surprise, I learned that it was indeed this 22-year old British girl, who sounds and acts way beyond her age. And the lyrics just hit too close to home right now. It’s like she’s singing my thoughts and feelings in the same intensity and wavelength as I would, but WAYYYYYYYYYY BETTER. Needless to say, her latest album has been on repeat. I obsessively listen to it. Sometimes it makes me feel better, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it makes me mad about things. Sometimes it gives me peace. But I just can’t stop listening. I am left speechless at the brutal truth. No sugarcoating. Just telling (singing?) it like it is. All I can say is that “preach it, sister!” and keep writing more, because I just can’t get enough.

This week is the week from hell. Deadlines looming over my head. People being annoying, stupid and childish. No time for working out, so all this stress piling up with no release. Doesn’t look very promising. Even though I’ll be going somewhere for the next few weeks, I’m not as excited as I should be. It will good to get away from here for a bit and hopefully clear my head. It will also give me a chance to distance myself from some people and re-evaluate priorities. I can’t let this happen all over again and put myself in a position where I’ll most likely get hurt (again). It’s not fair to me and I don’t deserve it. Screw everyone else.

Le sigh.
